Bass Landed, Nice.

by Capt. Don | Oct 18, 2016

Some days on the water, you know you're just never gonna' forget, and today was one of those days. We fished Rodman Dam, for large mouth bass with my buddies Bubba and RJ, I first met Bubba at a kids dock tournament, he must've been about 3 or 4 years old. Even at that early age he stood out in the crowd with his love for fishing and his cousin RJ has got the fishin' bug bad as well.

Rodman is a unique place. It was created during the construction of the cross Florida Barge Canal that was never completed. They put a dam up on the Ocklawaha River creating a reservoir that has become one of the best bass fishing destinations in Florida. Today is prime time, as they have just completed a huge draw down in the reservoir- lowering the water level to manage the vegetation growth. My good friend Matt Fields is a bass guru and assured me he knew a spot where we could set up and start catching. We launched our Carolina Skiff 20 JVX, loaded up with a bait well full of wild shiners, and got set up on Matt's  sweet spot. It didn't take long, as Bubba set the hook on a very respectable 3 pounder! From that time on, it was a bass frenzy, one after another RJ and Bubba kept puttin' 'em in the boat! What a crazy hot bite!

These guys can fish! They were giving me more instruction than I was giving them. I can't wait to get back here and do it again!

That's one of the things I love about my Carolina Skiff.... it's so versatile. We went from lobstering in the keys, to fishing the backwater creeks for redfish in Northeast Florida, to sheepshead fishing at the inlet, to Rodman Dam catching bass all in the same boat! Carolina Skiff has to be one of the most versatile boats out there. Just ask Bubba and RJ... I bet they'll never forget this day on a Carolina Skiff! Yep, anything is possible on a Carolina Skiff.....

Slimy 5's,
