Navigate Shallow Spots on Rehoboth Bay

I use my j14 for crabbing in Rehoboth Bay. There are some very shallow spots and I just pull up the motor, paddle through and I am on my way again.

The Unforgettable Joy of a Lifetime.

The story: As a child, I had a boat similar to a skiff with a six horsepower Mercury engine. I went everywhere and did everything all the way down to sailboat and pram rescue at sea. A small boat like a skiff can be the unforgettable joy of a long lifetime. Furthermore, a skiff can be used in shallow water like a back woods swamp. Also great for fishing from a lake, to a river, to the open ocean. I will give a skiff my highest recommendation.

That's Some 'Little Flower Box'

My father bought one of the first skiffs (to my knowledge) in the cape cod canal area and it became known on the water as "The little flower box' . We used the boat for quahoging commecially and lobstering a few pots. The boat was 16 feet long with a 40 horse suzuki 2 stroke on it and it screamed --or so it felt.

My story begins one day as we we were quahogging around the Stony Point dike of Wareham. On our way home to Onset, the wind was bucking the tide hard and the 7-8 ft waves were scary. We took a pounding as waves crashed over the bow. Our boat would shimmy through the water column as it rose and the water would rush over the transom as gunned gunned it up to the next wave. I was only about 10-12 years old and I was very scared. My dad always made me wear a pfd , but that was the first time I saw my dad put one on. It was only 15 minutes or so until we rounded the dike turning on top of a wave. After changing direction, the seas became much more manageable and I had a new respect for that "little flower box" and a new respect for the ocean and the canals power.

I am now 28 an have 2 boys of my own. I am thinking of getting another Skiff. This time I will be at the helm and I will try not to scare my boys, but its reassuring to know if you get caught in bad weather she wont go down no matter what. As long as it doesn't capsize and you can hang on a Carolina Skiff will bring you back to port.

A Skiff Owner for Life

I purchased my first "Skiff" a J-14 in 1996 so my three girls could fish with me on farm ponds. The flotation and stability of the boat won me over. We have years of great memories and the best news is they still love to go fishing with "Dad" ,even with boys and cars in their lives now. In fact, the oldest just called from college and asked when we were going fishing. I just recently purchased another Skiff, a J12 that I have configured "just for me".
Thanks Carolina Skiff, I am an owner for life.
