Captain Adam Wojciechowski loves his job. The owner of Locked N Loaded – a fishing charter company based in Delray Beach, Florida – Captain Adam gets to combine his favorite hobby with daily work, taking families with children or groups of adults on fishing excursions in his Carolina Skiff 21 DLV. Captain Adam guides guests through the lakes of South Florida, such as the Lake Ida chain of lakes. Built for exploring lakes, various canals and numerous estuaries, his Carolina Skiff 21 DLV is powered a 150 HP Suzuki outboard engine and can accommodate groups of four in addition to Captain Adam. We visited with Captain Adam to learn more about his boat, his business and his affinity for angling.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I started the charter business about six years ago. It was part time at first, but has grown into a full-time operation. I have twin five-month-old girls. Fishing is my only hobby. If I’m not fishing for work, I’m fishing for fun. I grew up in Connecticut and fished commercially there for lobsters. When I had the chance to come to Florida, I made the move, and the rest is history. Locked N Loaded excursions target fish that are only available here in Florida. We catch a lot of bass and clown knife fish. We take all kinds of groups out on the water, families with kids, groups of adults, you name it.
Tell us about the process of purchasing your boat and making it your own.
I’ve owned a few boats before this one. I did a lot of research before purchasing this Carolina Skiff. This boat had all of the things that I wanted. It was an easy decision to make the purchase. I bought this boat brand new in 2017 with the intention of using it mostly for my business. Pretty much the only thing I added was a trolling motor. It didn’t need any other modification. The fact that it is super stable, has a super wide platform and is extremely comfortable for fishing or cruising is just priceless. And this boat has the ability to go into less than a foot of water but also go out deep. That kind of versatility is just amazing.
Tell us about your ideal day out on the water.
An ideal day on the water is any day out on the water. It’s a bonus to get to fish and meet new people, but simply being out on the water is enough. My babies have been in the car seats on the boats from day one. When I’m not working, we’ll take the boat out to a sandbar and put the Bimini top on the boat and just hang out and relax for the day. It’s just incredible. It’s all about making memories and spending time on the water together
Any extraordinary memories about time spent on your boat that you’d like to share?
Every time I have little ones on the boat and they catch their first fish, there’s nothing like that smile on their face. But you know, a lot of older people fish with me, and some of them will catch that “bucket list fish” and that’s just as amazing.
Are you in the market for a new boat, or will you stick with your current Carolina Skiff?
I’m always looking for another boat, but if I bought something else, I’d buy another one of these. I mean, there’s no reason not to. There’s nothing I don’t like about this boat. If I were considering something else, I might look at the next size up, but honestly, this is a great boat, it’s super easy to clean, and it’s easy to maintain. I’ve owned all kinds of boats, and this is by far my favorite.
